Situated on the South African Highveld, Gauteng is the smallest province in South Africa. Though Gauteng accounts for only 1.5% of the country's land area, it is home to more than a quarter of its population. This highly urbanised province contains the country's largest city, Johannesburg, its administrative capital, Pretoria, and the highly commercial area in between these two cities, known as Midrand. Although business is one of the reasons for travel to Gauteng, it is by no means the only. Gauteng boasts beautiful green, leafy suburbs in the cities and not far down the road one can find beautiful savanna landscapes as in the Cradle of Humankind, rugged bushveld as in the Dinokeng "Big 5" Game Reserve and the lush Magaliesberg mountain range. The Pretoria and Johannesburg zoos as well as their botanical gardens are sanctuaries of calm and wonder amidst the business of these two urban centres.

Aside from the alluring landscapes found on this gold and mineral rich land, Gauteng is also rich in history and culture. Here, the backbone of South Africa's past runs deep in significant architecture, memorial sites and arts & cutlure museums. Hustling new centres of business and creativity such as the Maboneng district in Johannesburg; culinary and sightseeing tours to Soweto; Gold Reef City and the "gold" town of Cullinan and other cultural destinations form part of a tourism smorgasbord to be enjoyed in this province.
